Project Overview
R.E. Warner is a key player in the engineering and construction of a new automotive-grade continuous galvanizing line at the Nucor Steel Berkeley Facility in Hugar, South Carolina, providing our expertise in pre-engineering, engineering, and construction administration services across the architectural, civil, structural, HVAC, mechanical, piping, process, and electrical disciplines.
Nucor Corporation, North America's largest steel producer and the largest recycler of any material in the Americas is constructing a new automotive-grade continuous galvanizing line at its Nucor Steel Berkeley Facility in Huger, South Carolina. This $425 investment aligns with Nucor's strategic move towards higher-margin value-added products while leveraging sustainability trends.
The new line will have an annual capacity of approximately 500,000 tons and can produce uncoated annealed strip, zinc galvanized strip, and annealed galvanized steel strip. The new Berkeley line complements recent galvanizing expansions at other operations and will be the eighth wholly owned galvanizing line in the western United States.
Aligned with Nucor's outstanding safety, productivity, and efficiency standards, R.E. Warner's team successfully engineered the project's unique challenges with innovative and cost-saving solutions, including seismic loading and foundation engineering.
Upon completion, Nucor's new state-of-the-art facility will increase its galvanized production capacity and enable this location to produce advanced high-strength steel and Ultra High Strength Steel. Production of the first coil is scheduled for mid-2025, ensuring Nucor can meet automotive-grade steel demand and maintain its leadership in the steel industry.
