We're thrilled to share the news that Nucor Steel Berkeley's expansion has broken ground! This project encompasses the construction of a new $425 million automotive-grade continuous galvanizing line executing Nucor’s strategic objective to increase market share in the automotive and consumer durables markets. Nucor’s Berkeley mill produces flat-rolled steel that is used in cars, appliances, and many more everyday items.
The new line from
Primetals will have an annual capacity of approximately 500,000 tons and can produce uncoated annealed strip, zinc galvanized strip, and annealed galvanized steel strip – high-grade sheet metals for which demand is increasing. The expanded capacity also gives the company the ability to capitalize on its customers’ need for sustainable steel since Nucor employs a recycling-based steelmaking process that produces steel with much lower carbon emissions.
REW has provided pre-engineering, engineering, and construction administration services across the architectural, civil, structural, HVAC, mechanical, piping, process, and electrical disciplines.
